SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

far northeast Georgia
western North Carolina
eastern Tennessee
southwest Virginia

Effective this Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from 945 PM
until 300 am EDT.

Hail to 1 inch in diameter... thunderstorm wind gusts to 70
mph... and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 75
statute miles north and south of a line from 15 miles west
southwest of Knoxville Tennessee to 30 miles east of Bristol
Tennessee. For a complete depiction of the watch see the

Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.

Discussion... se KY sqln with embedded long-lived storms/supercells
should continue ESE into the wrn slopes of the srn Appalachians.
Wind and thermodynamic profiles /especially 40 kt unidirectional wly
flow upstream acorns middle TN/ suggest a continuing threat for high
wind and possible hail until convective system further outruns low
level instability axis and boundary layer continues to cool.

Aviation... a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft
to 1 inch. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots.
A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 450. Mean storm motion
vector 29035.

I'm glad somebody put this up. It's already in the BSG area and heading towards Appy right now. Make sure you've got some candles/flashlights near by just in case. It's rolling up fast and the lightning is fierce. If you have to travel soon, please be careful!

Got a flashlight and the car's parked under the carport.
Dogs are already trying to "protect" me from the thunder. They try.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are out for Lee, Hancock, and Letcher. Winds in excess of 70 and nickel size hail possible. The threat for it is probably over, but these storms have produced tornadoes over portions of Southeastern KY.

line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing penny size

were located along a line extending from 24 miles north of
Surgoinsville to Morristown to 17 miles west of New Market... or
along a line extending from 12 miles northeast of Jonesville to
Morristown to 9 miles northeast of Knoxville... and moving east at
45 mph.

In addition to large hail and damaging winds... continuous cloud to
ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors
immediately! Lightning is one of natures primary killers. Remember...
if you can hear thunder... you are close enough to be struck by
lightning.

BIg ol boom of thunder rolled across the building here at work a few minutes ago too. I love watching it lightning though.

Heard a police report of trees down in Lee County. Had a family member say it got pretty rough there.

I just realized that my foster dog has never experienced a thunderstorm while living in this house. It would seem she's not pleased. Not pleased at all.
She may get crated tonight. She needs the doggy sedative.
